1-on-1 Mentorship · Limited Roster
From broken knees in high school to a USC scholarship, a national championship as team captain, and a professional career across two continents. Now I mentor youth and high school athletes — and their families — through the Slobo 365: mindset, planning, and game IQ, built in water polo and translated to everything after it.
Why mentorship
I coach club water polo myself — it's essential, and a good club coach will make your athlete a far better player. But a club coach has thirty kids in the pool and a season to win. Nobody in that structure owns your athlete's individual trajectory.
Recruiting has a timeline, unwritten rules, and a hundred small decisions — what film to cut, which camps are worth the money, when to email a coach and what to say, which schools are realistic. Families navigate it once, blind. I've navigated it from every side: as the recruit, as the college player, as the pro, and now as the coach.
That's the gap mentorship fills: one person, in your athlete's corner, accountable for the whole path.
The path
Not theory from the pool deck. Every stage your athlete is about to face, I've been through — including the ones that go wrong.
Sophomore year of high school. I was told my career might be over before it started.
High School All-American, league MVP. Two years of rehab and unseen reps, paid in full.
Recruited to the top program in the country. Four years living what your athlete is chasing.
Game-winning goal against UCLA in the semifinal. Big moments are a skill you can train.
Team captain. NCAA champions with USC.
Drummoyne in Australia, then Serie A with Nuoto Catania in Italy.
Represented the Australian National Team in Japan and Doha.
Mentoring the next generation 1-on-1 — the mind, the plan, and the game, from someone who lived it.
How it works
Three tiers, one mentorship — the difference is cadence and access. Pick the intensity that fits your athlete’s stage; you can switch any month.
Your first month by Venmo, Zelle, or cash reserves the roster spot. No cards, no contracts — the welcome page walks you through it in two minutes.
Call one: the 6-skill assessment scored — your athlete and you score separately — an honest read, the mission statement written, and the 12-week plan built together. The plan is in your hands within 48 hours.
Private 45-minute calls on your tier's cadence, the plan updated after every one, and a re-score every 12 weeks — progress in numbers, visible to your athlete and to you.
Who this is for
Grades 6–8
Recruiting is years away — the habits that decide it are not. We build fundamentals, training discipline, and a genuine love for the game, so high school starts on the front foot.
Best fit: Foundations
Grades 9–10
The foundation years. Varsity minutes, first highlight film, target-school list, and the GPA conversation nobody wants to have. College coaches can contact your athlete starting June 15 after sophomore year — we’ll be ready before that date, not scrambling after it.
Best fit: Varsity
Grades 11–12
Active recruiting. Coach emails, camps and showcases, film that gets watched, official visits, offers, and decisions. Navigate it weekly with someone who’s sat on the athlete’s side of that table.
Best fit: All-American
To the parents
You're the decision-maker here, and you should vet me hard. Ask around Orange County water polo. Call the families I've coached. Look up the USC roster. I'm a real person with a real record, coaching in your community every week.
And because your athlete is a minor, the ground rules are absolute: you're welcome on every call, you're on the text thread with full visibility into every message, you can see the development plan and roadmap anytime, and you'll hear from me directly — not just through your kid.
What's included
Direction, ownership, composure, pressure, confidence, focus — scored at the Baseline by your athlete and by you, separately, then re-scored every 12 weeks. Progress in numbers, not vibes.
The 12-week plan is built together on call one and updated after every call. The mission statement is written in your athlete's own words and readdressed every six months — every version saved.
Real techniques, built one per call and tested in real games: the routine card, the reset, the cue card, the training journal, the morning ritual, the goal tree.
Swim and water polo sets slotted into the windows their actual schedule has — matched to the time and water access they really have. No window, no workout.
Pre-game nerves, a rough practice, film clips, schedule changes — me in your athlete's corner between calls, with a parent on the thread always.
The composure built for a 6-on-5 is the same composure they'll use in a final exam. Every skill is built in water polo and deliberately translated to school and everything after — including the college road, whenever they want it.
Tiers & pricing
Every tier gets a personalized development plan and the college recruiting roadmap, updated after every call. The difference is cadence — and whether your athlete has me in their pocket.

FAQ
There’s no magic age — there’s a right intensity for each age. Middle schoolers thrive on Foundations: one call a month building habits and fundamentals. By freshman or sophomore year the recruiting clock is genuinely running, and Varsity’s biweekly rhythm fits. Juniors and seniors in active recruiting get the most from All-American. If you’re unsure, start with the closest fit — we’ll adjust the tier after the first call if it isn’t right, and you can switch any month.
No — and please be skeptical of anyone who says yes. Men’s D1 water polo programs have 4.5 scholarships to split across an entire roster; full rides are rare even for stars. What I can promise: your athlete will know exactly what college coaches look for, have a plan built around it, put in the work with someone holding them accountable, and never miss an opportunity because nobody told them the timeline. That’s what actually moves recruiting.
Recruiting services blast your athlete’s profile to a database and charge thousands for it. I’ve been the recruit — and I know the coaches. This is mentorship: I develop your athlete as a player and a person every week, and the recruiting strategy is built into that relationship. A profile gets seen; a better athlete with a real plan gets signed.
Private lessons train the body — technique in the water, an hour at a time. Mentorship owns the whole path: what to train, why, what film to make, which coaches to email and when, how to handle a bad tournament, what classes matter. Many of my athletes do both. Lessons make you better at water polo; mentorship makes water polo take you somewhere.
A consistent structure: check in on the week (training, school, life), review last week’s goals against the development plan, go deep on one topic — film breakdown, technique, recruiting outreach, mental game — then set specific goals for the next stretch and end with open Q&A. Your athlete leaves every call knowing exactly what to do next.
Always welcome, never required. Many families join the first calls, then let their athlete take them solo — kids often open up more that way. Either way you’re never in the dark: you can see the development plan and roadmap at any time, and I’ll flag anything you should know.
Texting is an All-American feature. I respond same day, within 24 hours at the outside; texting hours are 8am–8pm Pacific. And because I mentor minors, this is non-negotiable: a parent or guardian is on the text thread — every message, full visibility, from day one. You never have to wonder what’s being said to your kid.
No. They need to be committed. I’ve mentored athletes who could barely make their club’s B team and athletes with national team invites — the plan just starts from a different place. What I can’t supply is caring. If your athlete wants this, I can work with everything else.
Simple and personal, like the rest of this: pick your tier, and your first month by Venmo or Zelle (or cash if you’ll see me at the pool) locks your spot. Then it’s the same amount on the same date each month — I’ll send a Venmo request so you never have to remember. No cards, no checkout, no contracts.
Month-to-month, no contracts. Tell me anytime before your next monthly payment is due and that’s that — you keep your calls through the end of the month you’ve paid for. Partial months aren’t refunded. You can also move between tiers as seasons and budgets change; just say the word and we’ll switch at the next month.
Not much. Calls are video and I schedule across time zones; texting is naturally asynchronous (my reply hours are 8am–8pm Pacific). I mentor athletes anywhere — the recruiting path to US college water polo is the same whether you’re in Orange County, Texas, or overseas.
